The milk producers from Loganesti village of Hancesti district protested in Chisinau against the low purchase prices offered by milk processing factories. The protesters asked the Government to intervene, Info-Prim Neo reports. The producers say that they get 1.75 lei per liter of milk with a content of fat of minimum 3%. Last year, the price was more than 4 lei a liter. “We came to protect our rights. In stores, the fatless milk is sold for 6-9 lei a liter at a time when they purchase it from us for 1.75 lei. We want to work at home, not go abroad and leave our children alone. The state should support us. We want at least 5 lei per liter of milk,” said producer Ecaterina Rotari. The protesters said they keep by 3-4 cows and spend more than 500 lei a month. The incomes from sales amount to slightly over 400 lei, according to them. “We spend hundreds of lei on coarse flour, corn, bran and pay a tax of 20 lei a year for a cow for the pasture. We also pay money to the cowherd and in the end earn nothing. Why should we earn less money than those that process the milk and make dairy products?” asked protester Natalia Chilat. Stanislav Ivanita, representative of the initiative group of the protesters, said that the milk producers are ready to accept a compromise price of 3.5-4 lei per liter of milk, depending on the fat content, if the Government sets a minimum purchase price. On July 15, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatolie Gorodenco raised the given issue at a meeting, but did not meet the producers to find out their opinion. Consequently, the Agriculture Ministry made no recommendations for the economic entities working in the processing industry and they continue to buy milk from the producers at a low price.
