Only the soldiers who do the military service in the National Army have the right to wear the military uniform. The Ministry of Defense calls on the people who want to wear it when fishing, hunting or want to sell it, to give up this idea as they face penalties, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Defense noted that citizens in reserve do not have the right to wear military uniform, except for servicemembers who served in the army for more than 20 years and have special merits in the state. Upon release from military service, by order of persons holding positions of responsibility, they are granted the right to wear the military uniform and the distinctive signs of servicepeople, in accordance with the law.
After the recent amendments made to the law on the training of citizens to defend the homeland, which were published in the Official Gazette on December 5, 2024, employees of public institutions and economic agents are banned from putting into use or wearing military uniforms and insignia or signs similar to those of military personnel in any situation.
Likewise, it is forbidden to make or sell the uniform or insignia of the military outside the legal procurement procedures carried out by the Ministry of Defense or by the administrative authorities and subordinated institutions. Exceptions are the cases in which the manufacture or sale of the uniform or insignia are requested by the military, based on the service card or, as the case may be, on the request issued by the institution where they work.
The violation of the legislation is punished with a fine of 1,000 to 4,000 lei in the case of natural persons, and a fine of 4,500 to 7,500 lei in the case of persons in a position of responsibility. The legal entity risks a fine of 5,500 to 8,000 lei. In all cases, the culprits are banned from carrying out a particular activity for a period of three to five months.
According to a press release from the National Army, videos of people dressed in military uniforms appeared on TikTok and other social networking sites. The people say that they are part of the National Army when they actually are not. A woman from Sângerei district, who posted such a video, was already fined.
