The politicians in the Republic of Moldova do their best to keep the use of two languages in the country. The fact that the laws continue to be formulated in two languages is a relevant example. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“Many of those who entered Parliament do not know the Romanian language and an interpreter was hired especially for them. It is regrettable that those who are in power continue to undermine the Romanian language,” stated historian Mihai Tasca.

He suggested that any candidate for MP in the future parliamentary elections should be obliged to sign a statement whereby these would promise to vote, if they enter Parliament, for amending Article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, which refers to the name of the official language. “This would be an indicator that will help us decide whether to vote for them or not,” said Mihai Tasca.

According to the signatory of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, ex-MP Vasile Soimaru, article 13 of the Constitution says an untruth as the language spoken beyond the Prut River is Romanian, not Moldovan. All the current members of Parliament know very well that the language is Romanian, but do not make the necessary change in the supreme law. “Instead of discussing economic problems and how to restore the stole US$1 billion, we continue to say on the Romanian Language Day that we have two languages and should be left alone as the Constitution provides it is so,” stated Vasile Soimaru.
