Mihai Razvan Ungureanu: „USA and EU don’t have sufficient political will for settling down the Transnistrian conflict”
“USA and EU don’t have sufficient political will to involve more directly in settling down the Transnistrian conflict – declared the Romanian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mihai Razvan Ungureanu who came to Chisinau on a private visit, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. There are opinions that “small steps” are being taken, because the participants to the peacemaking process always had hidden thoughts and fight for the supremacy of solving the Transnistrian problem from the angle of their own national interests “, declared the Romanian minister on Friday, April 14.
Mihai Razvan Ungureanu stated there could be a single answer for the Transnistrian problem only if the “5+2” format dialogue will have one single rule named honesty. Foreign politics doesn’t always comply with honesty and morality, Romanian minister thinks, that is the reason why USA and EU were given an insignificantly role in the settling process, as observers. He considers though that this should be also treated as a victory, as EU finally discovered on the map of its problems the spot named Transnistria. “Only after it became clear that Romania and Bulgaria are to become EU members the European map broadened for the bureaucrats from Bruxelles. They had ascertained that the border problems of the Romanian state are their problems too. Because this is not only the border of the Romanian state but is a political symbolical that separates a security zone from a big security problem” said Ungureanu.
“We all wish to find out a solution for Transnistria and that Moldova has the quality of an untouchable state. But in order to succeed, Moldova must also have a strong political will, because only the support of the friends is not enough” added the minister.
About the probability to present a Romanian plan for solving the Transnistrian conflict, the Romanian minister mentioned that “any Romanian project of external politics, before being presented to the public must involve the agreement of the constitutional factor, particularly the agreement of the president Traian Basescu. He informed “it is a doubtless fact that the Romanian and Moldovan presidents see again each other and this is only a scheduling issue”. Ungureanu expressed his belief that at the moment it happens, Traian Basescu will present to the Parliament from Chisinau a Romanian solution plan as previously promised.
Regarding the promises made about the revising of Citizenship Law in order to shorten the bureaucratic process, Ungureanu declared that he “already discussed with all the responsible ministers, particularly with the Ministry of Justice and Intern Ministry for making this changes”. He ensured that the president is also preoccupied of this problem and it is logic the Romanian citizenship passport to be obtained by Moldavians without spending too much time on bureaucratic complications.
