It is an attempt to politically capitalize on the needs and poverty of the people, said Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihai Popșoi, referring to the protest announced by the Shor Party for September 18. According to the PAS MP, there are signals that the people will be forced to come to protests as they are threatened they will lose their jobs. The Shor Party’s decision to go to Moscow to negotiate a lower gas price is ‘buffoonery’. Even without the involvement of the Shor Party’s MPs, the price of gas could decrease twice in October if the Russian Federation continues supplying gas, as the calculation formula is more advantageous during the cold period of the year, IPN reports.
According to a letter sent by the protest organizers to mayor general Ion Ceban, the Shor Party on September 18 plans to bring 50,000 people to the center of Chisinau. Also, the head of Orhei district Dinu Țurcanu informed Ion Ceban that the organizers want to mount a nonstop protest by pitching tents in front of the Presidential Palace. The representatives of the government consider the protest staged by the Shor Party is a cynical gesture aimed at gaining political advantages by profiting from the people’s poverty.
“Signals come from public institutions in Orhei that the people are threatened with the loss of jobs if they do not take part in protests, as it happened under Plahotniuc. Others are offered money for gathering together more people. You realize that the people who will come to Shor’s protest out of civic spirit are few in number. It is an attempt to destabilize the situation, to politically capitalize on the needs of the people and the citizens realize this. They try to corrupt people with stolen funds. It is a gesture of despair on the part of the fugitives, those who are in conflict with the law. It is a cynical gesture to exploit poverty,” Mihai Popșoi stated in the program “Résumé with Ileana Pîrgaru” on RliveTV channel.
The Deputy Speaker described as ridiculous the attempt by MPs of the Shor Party to go to Moscow to obtain a better gas price. “This is a political trick, buffoonery. It is ridicules when politicians from the Russian Federation accept contacts with the Shor Party. This is a party with which an honest politician who respects himself would not cooperate. The Shor Party’s attempts to go to Moscow are ridiculous. They can do it. In fact, the price of gas from October is to decline as the calculation formula will be changed and a 50% decrease in price is expected. Therefore, the Russian Federation could stop the supplies of gas. If Gazprom for political reasons halts the supply, we will find gas. The price will be higher but we will provide subsidies,” said Mihai Popșoi.
The Shor Party intends to mount a protest against ruling Party of Action and Solidarity in front of the Presidential Palace on September 18. Fugitive MP Ilan Shor called on representatives of all the political parties to join in without party flags.
