Mihai Godea supports Dorin Chirtoaca in second round of voting

Mihai Godea, who ran independently for the mayoralty of Chisinau, in a news conference on June 10 announced that he will support the Liberal candidate Dorin Chirtoaca in the second round of voting, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Godea called on the voters to mobilize and vote in large numbers for Dorin Chirtoaca, who is supported by the whole Alliance for European Integration. In this connection, he praised the leaders of the alliance for their solidarity and for signing a joint statement in support of Dorin Chirtoaca. “On June 19, we will decide together if we want to move forward or backward. We will vote not for a certain party or a certain leader, but for the freedoms gained so dearly in 2009. In the created situation, Dorin Chirtoaca is for Chisinau the best option,” said the former first vice president of the PLDM. According to Mihai Godea, a Communist mayor will stop the course of reforms, will encourage the PCRM to push Moldova towards early elections, and will try to isolate the country from the rest of the world and to transform it into a police state, as it was. In the June 5 elections, Mihai Godea polled 0.8% of the vote. Igor Dodon and Dorin Chirtoaca worn the largest number of votes in the first round of voting and will thus compete in the second round on June 19.
