Independent candidate for mayor of Chisinau Mihai Godea pledges to ensure comfortable transport and accessible fairs, increased road safety, and an optimized road network in the municipality. The promises are contained in the candidate’s program on public transport, Info-Prim Neo reports. On May 25, Mihai Godea presented seven steps aimed at making the public transport in the municipality of Chisinau more efficient in front of the former tramway depot, which now houses the Museum of Chisinau Public Transport. He said he chose this place not accidentally. “Most of the public units of transport are museum objects. The vehicles running in Chisinau must be renewed and modernized,” said Mihai Godea. He promised that if he becomes a mayor, he will modernize the Urban Bus Company and the Electric Transport Company, will extend the trolleybus routes to the suburbs and will create a tramway route from the Airport up to the City’s Gates. He also said that there will be built underground crosswalks, under public-private partnerships, and underground parking garages in Centru district, which is the busiest area in the city. Mihai Godea pledged to modernize the street bypassing Chisinau so as to prevent crowdedness on the streets, create additional lanes near intersections and cycling tracks, open bicycle rent points, and to withdraw the public units of transport after 15 years of work. The candidate said he will ask the Chisinau Municipal Council to allot a plot on which to build a modern airdrome where to instruct drivers. He also wants to effectively cooperate with national and foreign universities in improving the human resources management in the transport sector. On June 5 the voters are expected to choose the mayors and councilors of their settlements. Mihai Godea is under No.14 in the ballot.
