Mihai Godea disputes abrogation of joint evectional system in CC

The chairman of the Democratic Action Party (PAD) Mihai Godea submitted a challenge to the Constitutional Court (CC), disputing the abrogation of the joint electoral system, IPN reports. According to a communiqué from the party, by annulling the joint electoral system, the people’s right to vote was diminished and the Constitution of Moldova was violated.

The communiqué also says that according to other amendments made to the Election Code, the election runners will be able to make any changes in the electoral rolls with no restriction. Thus, it can happen that by the election day the list of candidates will be completely modified. In such a case, the voters will not know who they vote for.

The rise in the election threshold is another problem, according to the PAD. Given that the election threshold was once reduced, its increase already represents a diminution of the right to chose and to be chosen because it prevents the political organizations from entering Parliament.

The party considers that the joint electoral system extended the right to vote as the people were able to vote both according to party lists in the national constituency and for every candidate separately in the uninominal constituency.
