Mihai Godea appeals again to Constitutional Court
The chairman of the Democratic Action Party (PAD), MP Mihai Godea filed a new challenge to the Constitutional Court. He asked the Court to verify the constitutionality of a number of provisions of the law on the procedure for electing the President of Moldova. According to the lawmaker, those provisions defer the election of the head of state and the dissolution of Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the party.
Mihai Godea referred to three changes made by the ruling alliance in 2010-2011 – the inclusion of the term’ reasonable’, postponement of the elections when no candidates are registered, and holding of elections only if at least 61 MPs take part.
The PAD earlier announced that it will initiate a referendum in autumn, whereby it will suggest amending a number of articles of the Constitution, including guaranteeing the election of the head of state by the people’s vote.
In a communiqué, the party says that a meeting was called with opinion leaders to discuss solutions to the political crisis. The leaders of the PAD expressed readiness to analyze the constructive proposals that can help unlock the political crisis in Moldova and make the political class more responsible.
Earlier, Mihai Godea submitted a challenge to the Constructional Court, asking it to pronounce on the legality of the December 16 presidential elections. The Court ruled that the elections were unconstitutional as the confidentiality of the vote was not respected.
