Mihai Ghimpu's decree is aimed at delegalizing Moldovan state, historian Sergiu Nazaria
“The aim of Acting President Mihai Ghimpu's decree to institute the Soviet Occupation Day on June 28 is to delegalize and liquidate the Moldovan state, while the commission of experts of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, which confirmed that Moldova was occupied on June 28, 1940, was created at night, in secret, so that nobody knows it,” the head of the Association of Historians and Politologists of Moldova “Pro Moldova” Sergiu Nazaria told a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“If Bessarabia was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940, it means that Bessarabia is Romanian land. Thus, from 1940 until 2010, this illegal territory has been outside the Romanian state. Since June 28, 1940 until August 27, 1991, this territory illegally had been a component part of the Soviet Union. Therefore, the proclamation of independence on August 27 was also an illegal act,” the historian said.
Sergiu Nazaria said the archive documents and reports show Mihai Ghimpu's acts are “anti-scientific, anti-historical and are all lies.” “I will prove in a monograph titled “History of the Bessarabian Problem” that the Bessarabians considered the Romanian authorities were occupation authorities and when the Romanian armies pulled out, the people saw them off with curses,” the historian said.
According to him, the scientific commission was to provide convicting arguments that it was a Soviet occupation day. “The commission's head Andrei Esanu must produce evidence that Bessarabia has never been recognized as Romanian territory. It has been always considered territory of the Soviet Union,” the historian said.
Sergiu Nazaria also said that Mihai Ghimpu issued the decree on propose, in order to undermine the relations with Russia and make the territorial reintegration impossible.
On June 24, Mihai Ghimpu decreed that June 28 will be the Day of Soviet Occupation and Commemoration of the Victims of the Communist Regime.
