Mihai Ghimpu will accept to hold negotiations with PCRM only when it recognizes AEI
The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on Thursday that he will accept to hold negotiations with the PCRM only if this party and its leader Vladimir Voronin recognize the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Voronin did not ask for a meeting with the alliance. He again spreads his ideas that he does not recognize the alliance. The alliance means democracy, while democracy means a parliamentary majority. How can they not recognize this parliamentary majority called the AEI? They should recognize the alliance and we will then meet and discuss,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
According to the Liberal leader, until the AEI agreement is in force, the PL will support Marian Lupu for the post of head of state. If Marian Lupu does not run in the elections, they will discuss the situation within the AEI Council. “If another candidate is proposed, we will hold discussions within the party and take a decision,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
At the end of the autumn-winter session of the legislature, Vladimir Voronin launched a call to the parliamentary majority, saying he was ready to negotiate with every party so as to identity a suitable candidate for the presidency.
The Parliament will try again to elect the head of state on January 15. Marian Lupu announced he will not run in those elections.
