Mihai Ghimpu: “When will we have public television?”
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that he did not see news stories about his working visit to Georgia during August 15-17 in the news program “Mesager” on the national television channel Moldova 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the August 18 program “Politics Live”, Mihai Ghimpu said that his visit to Georgia was very productive and the people should have been informed about this. “When will we have public television,” he asked the presenter of the program.
In the context of the cooperation agreements between Moldova and Georgia signed by Mihai Ghimpu and his counterpart Mikhail Saakashvili, the Acting President said Georgia made considerable economic and social progress during the last few years. “I discussed with President Saakashvili and understood that welfare is not possible without reforms,” he said.
Mihai Ghimpu did not yet clearly say if they discussed issues regarding the GUAM, which has not convened since 2007, as the Russian press reported immediately after the meeting of the two heads of state. “How can the Russian press know what I talked with President Saakashvili about?” he asked, but did not say what steps were taken to make sure that the national press adequately cover the issue. The presidential press service issued an official communique about the results of the visit, without many details, in the evening of August 17.
While in Georgia, Mihai Ghimpu visited the summer camp in Anaklia, where over 120 Moldovan children from flood-stricken families are resting. The costs of their stay there are fully covered by the Georgian authorities.
Georgia also pledged to build ten houses for Moldovan flood victims and a kindergarten. Besides, the Georgian authorities donated ten mobile boats and ten water pumps to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service for flood cleanup.
