Mihai Ghimpu to meet with Pope Benedict XVI
Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu will pay an official visit to Rome during May 23-26, at the invitation of the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament. In the evening of the first day of the visit, Mihai Ghimpu will hold a meeting with representatives of the Moldovan community in Italy, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Parliament's press office.
On May 24, the Acting President will have meetings with Pope Benedict XVI and the Vatican's Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. The same day, Mihai Ghimpu will meet with the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini.
The program of the visit also includes a meeting with a group of Italian businessmen organized with the support of the European Academy for Economic and Cultural Relations, meetings with members of the Friendship Group with Moldova of the Chamber of Deputies, the deputy director general of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization Changchui He, the president of the International Fund for Agricultural Development Kanayo Nwanze, and the head of the Lazio Region Renata Polverini.
Mihai Ghimpu will also give interviews for the television channel Rai 2 and the newspaper “La nostra gazzetta”.
The Moldovan delegation that will accompany the Acting President includes the First Deputy Speaker Serafim Urecheanu, Deputy Speaker Alexandru Stoianoglo, the head of the parliamentary group of the Liberal Democratic Party Mihai Godea and Liberal MP Gheorghe Brega.
