Mihai Ghimpu: There have been no secret agreements within the Alliance or any division of spheres of influence

[Info-Prim Neo article from the series “2011: the way it was and was not”] {“The AIE agreement– a year of governance”- the opinion of Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu} As long as the Alliance for European Integration exists, it will be solid as concrete. The glue will be the needs and interests of people who have chosen us to find solutions for their problems and to improve their lives. It’s important that the Alliance has a strong foundation, which is the governing program “Liberty, Democracy, Wellbeing”. A construction with solid foundations can withstand any wind, lightning or storm, stated Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu in an interview for Info-Prim Neo. Mihai Ghimpu says that both AIE 1 and AIE 2 had to pass through difficult moments because of the lack of communication and various personality traits of some political leaders. “Nonetheless, there was no break-up as some media sources or political analysts claimed. People wouldn’t have tolerated such a situation and would have penalized us. They entrusted us with mandates and we are obliged to overcome personal ambitions and party interests to take care of citizens”, said the PL leader. As to whether the AIE agreement would be different if time could be turned back, Mihai Ghimpu answered that time proved even the Constitution needed to be updated and amended. He explained that political acts reflect the current situation in a continuously changing society. “The proof is that we had to sign a supplement to the AIE agreement and PL even published it. Future amendments to the AIE agreement shouldn’t be ruled out and depend on the political context. Some situation not stipulated in the agreement could occur. We have previously announced that PL is willing to revise the distribution of the highest state posts. Leaving aside false modesty, I remind you that PL gave up the Speaker position for the sake of the Alliance”, said Mihai Ghimpu. According to the Liberal boss, PL has always pleaded for respecting the AIE agreement in order to avoid political games, speculation and insinuations that ultimately turn against both citizens and politicians. Ghimpu says that although these things couldn’t always be avoided, Moldova’s foreign partners remarked the country’s success and ambitious reform agenda. “I can certainly affirm that there have been no secret agreements within the Alliance, hidden from public sight, no any division of spheres of influence. On the contrary, there was a lot of transparency for mass media and people”, claims the PL leader. According to Mihai Ghimpu, Moldova will be governed by coalitions over the following years. This prediction is supported by opinion polls. Politicians will have to learn to govern together, to work in teams, to hear each other, so that all the Moldovan benefited from such political balance and mutual understanding. On December 30, the PL, PLDM and PDM leaders signed the founding agreement of the Alliance. [Irina Turcanu, Info-Prim Neo]
