Mihai Ghimpu: Thank God the knife is in my hand

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party (PL), Friday said the decision when the early legislative elections will take place will be taken by the Alliance for European Integration. He stressed that unlike other parties from the Alliance, he does not hurry to set the election date, Info-Prim Neo reports. Asked why the PL does not make public its viewpoint on the early elections, as the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Democratic Party (PDM) did, Mihai Ghimpu said the party will pronounce on the matter after the Alliance reaches a decision. “Other parties can say what they want. Thank God the knife is in my hand,” he stated. Mihai Ghimpu also said that the world will not end after June 16, when the legislative body will have to be dissolved. “I'm not obliged to dissolve the Parliament on June 17. After June 16, I will have time to examine all the circumstances,” he said. The president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov said Mihai Ghimpu's decisions are the Alliance's decisions. The PDM announced earlier that they want the early legislative elections to take place in autumn. The PLDM said the crisis can be overcome by holding a constitutional referendum on the method of electing the head of state in summer and parliamentary and presidential elections in autumn, not later than November.
