Mihai Ghimpu: Signing of decree on June 28 was my greatest accomplishment

The Alliance for European Integration managed to bring light to people’s homes, but it did not do everything it planned to, Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said Friday in a news conference held to sum up the results of the departing year, Info-Prim Neo reports. As Head of Parliament, Mihai Ghimpu said that the legislature fulfilled its duties and directed Moldova’s development course towards the European Union. According to Mihai Ghimpu, the legislative body brought light, social and economic freedom, and adopted 237 laws and 149 decisions. Mihai Ghimpu said that the work of Acting President of Moldova was harder than that of Speaker. “I had to promulgate a lot of laws that were analyzed in detail by the President’s Apparatus,” he stated. According to the leader of the PL, the signing of the decreed whereby June 28 was declared as the Soviet Occupation Day, 70 years after that event, was his greatest accomplishment as Acting President. “I’m proud that I signed that document even if it was annulled by the Constitutional Court,” he said. While holding the post of Acting President, Mihai Ghimpu conferred 181 state awards, signed 49 decrees appointing judges and 29 decrees to open negotiations on bilateral agreements with other countries. Mihai Ghimpu also said that he intends to sign a decree to open the Parliament’s session on December 28. Under the legislation, Mihai Ghimpu will no more be Head of Parliament and Acting President after that day.
