Mihai Ghimpu says profanation of synagogue is challenge to governing alliance

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu considers the vandalizing of the synagogue in Chisinau is a challenge to the ruling alliance. In a statement made public on September 15, the head of state expresses his indignation at such a gesture, stressing this is not in accordance with the attitude and spirit of the Moldovan people, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Ghimpu instructed the relevant bodies to investigate the case and identify the culprits. He voiced hope that such gestures will not affect the interethnic relations and that the members of the Jewish community will feel in Moldova at home, as always. The synagogue in Chisinau was profaned last weekend. Unidentified persons drew the Nazi swastika and symbols of Moldovan organizations on its walls.
