Mihai Ghimpu says he will go to roundtable meeting even at night
The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said he was ready to start discussions on the election of the head of state. “I will go even at night,” Mihai Ghimpu said, referring to Acting President Marian Lupu’s invitation to a roundtable meeting to consider possibilities of overcoming the political crisis, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Moldova needs a head of state more than ever because the country needs political stability. I will go to the meeting, but with the Alliance’s candidate for the presidency who is Lupu, because Lupu represents the parliamentary majority,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
Asked by the journalists to comment on Vladimir Voronin’s assertion that the government should cede some of the posts to the opposition, Mihai Ghimpu said these conditions should be discussed at talks. “They should tell if they want positions at the Audit Office or other institutions and we will see. But what Voronin proposes means the destruction of the Alliance,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
“The Communists will never vote for the Alliance’s candidate. Their position is clear. Don’t you see that Voronin pines for the seat in the presidium? The Communists aim to destroy the Alliance,” said the Liberal leader.
Marian Lupu invited the parliamentary parties to a roundtable meeting to discuss ways of resolving the political crisis. It may take place on Friday or on Saturday. The PLDM announced they will take part in discussions, while the leader of the PCRM said he will not go as the Alliance should decide first what they want.
