Mihai Ghimpu questioned by prosecutors

Speaker Mihai Ghimpu considers that the Parliament Building and the Presidential Office could have been saved if the former governors had come out and talked to the protesters so as to calm them down. The leader of the Liberal Party made the statement on April 23 before going to the Prosecutor's Office to give testimony as a witness in the cases related to the April 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ghimpu said that the prepared for the questioning and tried to remember as many details as possible. According to him, the Government Building and the National Television Building might have been also devastated, but he convinced the young people not to do it during a discussion with them. Mihai Ghimpu stressed that he went to the Great National Assembly Square when he found out that the Parliament Building was being devastated. “I succeeded in stopping the young people from going to the National Television Building and the Government Building. The devastation of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Office could have been avoided if the Voronin administration had talked to the people then,” he said.
