The Liberal Party (PL) will make effort for the early parliamentary elections to be avoided by contributing to the formation of a Government, but insists on discussions with the Lib-Dems and the Democrats, without conditions yet, the party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu said after the consultations centering on the designation of a new candidate for Prime Minister held with President Nicolae Timofti, IPN reports.
“We discussed the formation of a new Government and the nomination of a candidate, which is the prerogative of the head of state. We didn’t discuss names as it is the parliamentary groups that should reach an agreement as to the formation of a parliamentary coalition and the candidate for premiership,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
“When we discuss, everyone has the right to submit proposals, not yet to impose conditions. We already experienced such a situation. If the Lib-Dems wants, they should discuss with us without imposing conditions or we will say goodbye to them.”
Mihai Ghimpu added the PL will do its utmost to avoid early elections. The party is for the PL, PLDM and PDM to hold negotiations. The Liberals’ leader avoided yet saying if he will accept to vote in a Government together with the MPs who defected from the Communist parliamentary group.
The attempt to invest the Cabinet proposed by candidate for premiership Ion Sturza failed because a quorum wasn’t present at the January 4 special sitting of Parliament.
