The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu said the PL will not join the coalition between the Democratic Party (PDM) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and demands that negotiations on the formation of a new coalition of the pro-European parties should be launched. The Liberal leader made such statements in the talks show “Fabrika” on Publica TV channel, IPN reports.
“We do not want an alliance for the sake of an alliance. We do not want somebody to steal billions of lei and not to be held accountable, while others to come and assume the consequences. The IMF turned it back. No roads are being built and no financing is allocated. The foreign partners do not provide money when no reforms are done. We understand that we need the assistance of the European partners or we will die of starvation, but we do not want to be used. Things should be clarified. We have the formula ‘from the airport’. The Europeans insist on a European prosecutor too. If there is willingness, we can agree to form the Government during one evening,” stated Ghimpu.
The Liberal leader imposed one more condition on the PDM and PLDM. “I’m afraid that the talks with us will be again fake and they will ultimately form an alliance with the Communists. I want the leaders of the PDM and PLDM to say publicly that they will not form an alliance with the PCRM. We want the negotiations to be more transparent and to be attended by the press and by representatives of the European partners,” added Ghimpu.
He avoided saying who he would accept as Premier. “It is not within my competence to designate the candidate for premiership. This should be done by the party with the largest number of seats of MP. I can say that the future Prime Minister must be an honest person and a good politician, not a servant of his party or the party’s leader. This person must have integrity and should not say afterward that ‘I was just a Premier’,” stated the Liberal leader.
During the negotiations on the formation of the government coalition held last winter, the leaders of the PLDM, PDM and PL had a meeting with representatives of the most important European parties at the Chisinau International Airport. There were agreed the conditions of forming an alliance, but these were not respected.
