The campaign prior to the presidential election is the best occasion for popularizing, discussing and proposing ideals for reuniting Moldova and Romania to the public. Such an idea was made public by the Liberal Party’s candidate for President Mihai Ghimpu, who addressed an open letter to the generation of unionists, IPN reports.
In his address, the politician says that the promotion of the Union and unionism in this presidential campaign, including in the perspective of the 2018 parliamentary elections, must be a common goal. “As the only unionist candidate who will run in elections, I ask you to continue this struggle. It is a struggle where not the persons are the most important, but the ideal. The ideal to which we all aspire,” said Mihai Ghimpu.
The Liberal candidate also wrote that a unionist President realizes that the conditions for the Union will never be favorable or ideal. “We must create these conditions and make them favorable. Nobody will ensure the Union for us, as nobody ensured it for our ancestors who achieved the Small Union in 1859 or the Big Union on December 1, 1918. For a unionist President, the integration into the EU by the Union with Romania is the only solution,” he said.
Mihai Ghimpu noted that a unionist President is the one who prepares the Union inside and outside and struggles to obtain a majority of seats in Parliament so as to make the Union in 2018. As a candidate for the office of President of Moldova, he represents the connection between the generation of Independence and the generation of the Union and calls on the unionists to ensure that the presidential elections are a decisive step towards achieving the common goal – the union of all the Romanians in a big, prosperous and safe country.
