Mihai Ghimpu: Liberal Party is ready to withdraw from AEI-3

The Liberal Party (PL) will leave the Alliance for European Integration 3 if the party’s conditions, which are contained in the agreement on the formation of the alliance, are not satisfied during October, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu announced in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“First of all, we want to ensure the Association Agreement with the EU is implemented. We want the stealing of the US$1 billion to be elucidated and those to blame to be brought to justice and jailed for what they did. We will also insist on radical actions in fighting corruption. We returned to power not for the sake of ministries, but to bring things in order. If we are not listened to, we will leave the alliance at the beginning of November,” said Mihai Ghimpu.

He also said that the situation of 2001, when the Communists took over, could repeat. “In 2001 the people voted not for the Communists, but against the then government. Instead of advancing, things degenerated. In 2009 the pro-European forces came to power, but things didn’t advance either,” explained the Liberal leader.

Mihai Ghimpu noted that he supports the protesters, but will not join in with them. “I consider the people who protest are right. But the problem resides in the leaders of the protesters. Valentin Dolganiuc had also been in power. Victor and Viorel Topa were tried for misappropriation. Viorel Topa provided a loan from Banca de Economii to Victor Topa, who was the director of the Chisinau airport. The Socialists had been in power too. Usatyi and Dodon are themselves oligarchs. I’m not a bandit or an oligarch and have nothing to do with the stolen billion. There are problems, but not Dodon and Usatyi should lead the protesters,” he stated.
