Mihai Ghimpu invites Pope Benedict XVI to Moldova
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu invited Pope Benedict XVI to visit Moldova. In a meeting in Rome on May 24, Mihai Ghimpu and the Pontiff discussed the role of religion and the Church in maintaining peace and stability in the world and understanding between people, regardless of religion, as well as the communication relations between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the presidential press service, Mihai Ghimpu stressed that the role of the Church becomes more important when the politicians cannot deal with sensitive issues. He assured that the Moldovan authorities fully support the Catholic Church, while the Catholics in Moldova live in harmony with the persons of other religions. After the meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, Mihai Ghimpu met with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
Mihai Ghimpu, accompanied by a group of MPs, is paying a working visit to Rome between May 23-26.
