Mihai Ghimpu in Kiev: Moldova and Ukraine are predestined to have good relations
“Regardless of Ukrainian President's priorities, Moldova and Ukraine are neighbors and are destined to have good relations. This is a major condition for any country with European aspirations,” Moldova's Acting President Mihai Ghimpu told the public radio station Radio Moldova in an interview, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. He made the same statement at President Viktor Yanukovych's inauguration in Kiev on February 25.
Mihai Ghimpu took part in the ceremony alongside another 11 Presidents, four Premiers and four Heads of Parliament.
While in Kiev, Moldova's caretaker President will have bilateral meetings with Viktor Yanukovych, the President of Belarus Alexandr Lukashenko and the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite. He will also meet with the chairwoman of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Roberta Alma Anastase.
Ukraine's pro-Moscow opposition leader Viktor Yanukovych narrowly defeated PM Yulia Tymoshenko in a presidential election runoff on February 7. Tymoshenko and the former President Viktor Yushchenko did not attend the investiture.
