Mihai Ghimpu: I will apply Constitution as it should be applied, not as PCRM understands it
The Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu Wednesday denied the PCRM representative's statement that the legislative body should be dissolved immediately, saying it can be dissolved only one year after the dissolution of the last Parliament, which was in July 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I will not apply the Constitution as the PCRM understands it, but in strict compliance with its provisions,” he told a news conference.
According to him, Communists' statements that the provision according to which the Parliament cannot be dissolved two times during a year refers only to cases when the legislature cannot confirm the government or cannot adopt laws within three months are not true. ”The provision concerning the Parliament's dissolution refers to all the situations,” Ghimpu said.
He made it clear that after the Constitution is modified, it will not be necessary to dissolve the Parliament. “The new Constitution will be designed to prevent early elections,” Ghimpu said.
In a news conference on the same day, Communist MP Vadim Misin said that under the Constitution, the acting President must dissolve the Parliament and announce early elections if the head of state is not elected in the second round of voting either. “In legal terms, this means that the acting President must do this immediately,” Misin said.
