Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu, Moldova's Acting President, said the ruling alliance has not reached a compromise on the constitutional reform with the Communists Party. According to Ghimpu, the Communists will accept the modifications to the Constitution only if former president Vladimir Voronin becomes parliamentary Speaker. “I am the Head of Parliament and I do not intend to share this post with Mister Voronin,” Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ghimpu said that accepting the Communists' proposal to form a government together with them means restoring the Voronin regime in Moldova, but this is not what the voters want. “We want a constitutional reform and expect that our partners will support us,” Mihai Ghimpu said, referring to the experts of the Venice Commission, who came to Chisinau to provide assistance to the Government in this initiative. The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration will meet with the delegation of the Venice Commission on Friday, February 26. The organization's Secretary General Gianni Buquicchio, who paid a visit to Moldova during February 9-10, recommended the authorities to reach a consensus on the modification of the article concerning the election of the head of state first as other amendments to the Constitution can wait
