Mihai Ghimpu: “Communists will witness today greatest failure”

Acting President and Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu said the Opposition party, the PCRM, will experience the greatest failure on the day of the constitutional referendum. Mihai Ghimpu and his wife Dina said they voted for stability, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai and Dina Ghimpu voted at polling place No 1. housed by the Chisinau-based theoretical high school “N. Gogol” at 9.30. Mihai Ghimpu joked with the members of the voting commission and then entered the polling booth. When going out, he asked the journalists if his colleagues from the alliance have already voted. “I expect a good result,” said Ghimpu. Asked if he will dissolve Parliament after the referendum, Mihai Ghimpu said he will consult his alliance colleagues first. As the leader of the Liberal Party, he said the PL will have a candidate for the presidency, specifying the presidential and legislative elections will be held the same day. Dina Ghimpu said Moldova needs stability in order to build valuable things. The Acting Presdient expressed his regret at the incident that happened at the polling place in Corjova, which was blocked by the Transnistrian militia. “It was predictable. If we had not dealt with elections during a year, we would have focused on the Transnistrian conflict,” he said. The participants in the referendum are asked if they are in favor or against amending Article 78 of the Constitution so that it allows for direct election of the head of state.
