Mihai Ghimpu: Better in opposition than with PDM in coalition

The president of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said they would better be in the opposition than with the Democratic Party in a coalition in the next Parliament. Furthermore, he noted a coalition in the legislature is possible without the PDM, but this depends on the parties of the right, IPN reports.

“Who wants Plahotniuc to remain in power? Only Dodon and this is not for sure,” stated the Liberal leader.

Mihai Ghimpu noted a coalition in the legislature could be formed only if the parties of the right coordinate the participation in elections between them. “The people will now vote with two ballots – one for single-member constituencies and another one for party lists – and they will choose who to give their vote to. The votes here are not lost,” he stated.

As to the failure to enshrine “the European integration” in the Constitution, the Liberal leader said the Democrats who suggested the constitutional amendment proposal are themselves responsible. “If the Democratic Party had wanted their initiative to be supported, they wouldn’t have forced the vote today. They wouldn’t have proposed giving the bill two readings. What achieving one’s goal means? If you see that it does not work, you have discussions and put off,” he noted, adding some of the MPs of the parliamentary majority were absent from the sitting and this also shows the PDM didn’t really want the Constitution to be amended.
