The setting up of migration points on the administrative line that separates the two banks of the Nistru River will not form an internal border. The Moldovans living on the left bank of the Nistru will not be affected by the adoption of the given law and will not experience impediments in their movement, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia German, quoted by IPN.
“Chisinau will never deploy border police there. We have only one eastern border, between Moldova and Ukraine,” stated Natalia Gherman. She underlined that the foreigners at the migration points will not be checked, but only registered. “The residents of the Transnistrian region will not meet with obstacles in their movement,” said the minister, adding that the Government of Moldova does not aim to set a border between the two banks or to exert pressure.
Stefano Manservisi, Director General for Home Affairs at the European Commission, said the creation of migration points wasn’t a condition imposed by the Commission or the EU member states. The Moldovan Parliament’s decision to adopt the given law in the final reading is laudable. “We welcome the spirit of this law that will ensure the free movement of everyone. This is what we aim to ultimately obtain by liberalizing the visa regime,” said Stefano Manservisi.
On October 11, the legislative body of Moldova passed in the final reading a bill concerning the setting up of six migration point on the administrative line between the two banks of the Nistru. In reaction, the Transnistrian administration accused the Moldovan authorities of intending to establish an internal border.
