The Moldovan migrants who achieved results abroad can have a positive impact on the community, considers the coordinator of NEXUS Moldova Nicolaas de Zwager. According to him, the phenomenon of migration is circular in character and benefits should be extracted form it here, in the country.
The phenomenon of migration Moldova was discussed in a public debate entitled “Migration – challenges and opportunities for Moldova” that was staged by the EU Delegation to Moldova. There was discussed the activity of the NEXUS network in Moldova, which provides assistance to Moldovans who emigrated or returned home from abroad.
“The migrants need only support and we offer them this support. We want to make migration as efficient as possible so that each migrant achieved their goals effectively, in a short period of time, and returned home with as much success as possible,” stated Nicolaas de Zwager.
According to the EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola, there should be more opportunities that would attract investors to Moldova and would promote exports to the EU market. “We know that there are possibilities for creating an attractive environment for the people so that they returned home. The country needs these persons now. There is an increasing number of pensioners and children who are left outside family care. It is very important to benefit from the capacities of the persons who went abroad, to bring them home and to make use of the gained experience,” the diplomat said in the debate.
NEXUS Moldova represents a network of service centers opened in Cahul, Edinet, Ungheni, and Chisinau, where all those who want to go abroad, are abroad or want to return home can receive answers to their questions.
According to the organizers of the debate, almost 40% of the families in Moldova are affected by migration. Currently, 370,000 persons are involved in long-term migration, while 109,000 – in short-term migration.
