Microphone is one of few enemies of radio journalist Gheorge Danu

The microphone and white paper have been two of the few enemies of radio journalist Gheorghe Danu, ex-director of Radio Moldova, Emeritus Man of Culture. He made related confessions in a program on Radio Moldova, which centered on his 70th birthday, Info-Prim Neo reports. “My second enemy is the white paper. You cannot imagine what effort I made staying above it when writing an essay, a letter or at exams. It was hard for me to start writing. Afterward, everything went smooth. My second enemy is the microphone. I was afraid of microphone throughout the 25 years I worked at the radio and continue to be afraid of it,” said Gheorghe Danu. During the 25 years, he went through all the stages of a career. In 1989-1990, which were marked by political and social turmoil, he had been the director of Radio Moldova. “We produced a wide range of radio programs. I started at the division centering on agriculture and worked with a lot of figures and data. I edited texts about how many hectares of land were plowed, sowed, cultivated and harvested. We also had pieces of advice for the farmers. The materials were boring. Our office was then based in the old building, where TV Moldova 1 is now based. The division for youth Luceafarul was situated at the first floor. They produced very interesting programs with discussions and invitees. I had friends there, including Petru Dudnic, and Alexandru Mihailov. I set the goal to do what they did. I worked out the conception of the program “Semanatorul” (“Sower”), which was different from what I did earlier. I then shifted to culture and science. Not many persons wrote about party life. It wasn’t easy for me, but I wrote about this too. During about three years, we broadcast the program “Lumina” (“Light”), which was the only one for and against God. It may seem strange, but most of the letters were addressed to this program because it probably brought a drop of light and faith in the souls of our hardly stricken people. We also produced other programs that were popular or less popular, including “The Microphone with Thorns”, and “Women’s Radio Club”,” said the journalist. Gheorghe Danu became editor-in-chief in a period that he names ‘the thaw’. “We just entered the thaw. Together with Alexandru Dorogan, and Ion Bunduchi (who worked at the Youth Editorial Staff that formed part of our nucleus), we devised “The Morning Wave”. I cared a lot about this program. The program lasted from 6am until 9am. We worked until 12 midnight. Some of us slept in the radio’s office. Some did not resist. Many were leaving the radio because they could not assert themselves there. I was magnetized by that miracle and liked working there. I haven’t worked at the radio for 20 years, but still wake up and ask myself if I presented the program or not,” he stated. He believes he became director of Radio Moldova by the destiny’s will, but also because he wanted to occupy this post very much. “I always regarded the radio as something that includes music, literature, information, entertainment. I wanted that the radio shook the people. I think I did something good as the radio had a huge impact when I left it, “said Gheorghe Danu. He considers that the radio station’s impact is now lower. “We were more enthusiastic and more actively became involved in public life. There should be authority. I worked for 95 rubles a month for dozens of years and never thought I should do what I do in accordance with my pay. When I want to do something, I take the microphone and say it. Radio Moldova has a rich patrimony and it should be used. It seems to me that the then administration was more open to the radio and TV. Now the authorities do not need them probably,” said Gheorghe Danu. According to Gheorghe Danu, a radio personality is like Ilie Stratulat (artistic director at Radio Moldova – e.n.), and Alexandru Dorogan (current director of Radio Moldova – e.n.). “The radio is a state of spirit. It is a magic,” he said. Gheorghe Danu also said that he has hearty ties with many of his former colleagues and remembers them rather often, including Valeriu Vasilica, Petrica Grozavu, Arcadie Gherasim. He stressed he follows them and is glad for their accomplishments. He also mentioned Vasile Romanciuc, Efim Tarlapan, Aurel Scobioala. He expressed his regret that some of his close friends like Andrei Matcovschi and Stefan Casian passed away. Gheorghe Danu considers himself a lucky person. “I did not have enemies, except the dog, the white paper and the microphone. I did not have enemies among the people as I got on well with them. I learned that the essence of life is not to do bad things. I also believe in kindness, friendship and tolerance,” he underlined.
