The election held in the Republic of Moldova met all national and international standards and this fact was confirmed by the preliminary reports of international election observation missions. Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) made clarifications in this regard following statements about the election in Moldova, made by representatives of the Russian authorities. According to the Ministry, the messages released in the public space in recent days do not correspond to reality, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the preliminary reports of the international election observation missions welcomed the Republic of Moldova’s resistance in the face of the unprecedented assault on its democracy with the participation of hostile forces from outside the country.
"In this connection, we deny the unfounded criticism leveled by representatives of the Russian authorities with the aim of manipulating public opinion. These clumsy attempts to question the legitimacy of the election are nothing but the continuation of malign interference in our internal affairs. We condemn these reprehensible actions and consider them unacceptable, especially on the part of a state recognized as an anti-example in the field of democracy," reads a press release.
According to the MFA, the commentators from among the Russian authorities are not credible when they criticize democratic processes of which they have only theoretical knowledge. "However, we wish the Russian citizens to enjoy all the fundamental rights and freedoms enjoyed by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova," runs the press release.
After the presidential election, in which Maia Sandu won a new presidential term, the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the results "unfair and undemocratic". According to the Kremlin, Maia Sandu cannot be the President of the Republic of Moldova because she did not win the vote in the country in the November 3 election. On the other hand, Moscow accuses Chisinau of denying hundreds of thousands of Moldovans in Russia the right to vote.
