MFA: Russia defies norms and principles of international law

The Russian Federation defies the norms and principles of international law and undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which summoned Russia’s Ambassador in Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Ambassador Vasnetsov was informed about the protest against the opening of polling stations in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, contrary to the request of the Ministry. The institution noted that it continues to assess the situation and will additionally inform about other reactions.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean commented on Moldova’s decision to inform the Russian Federation about the protest against the establishment of polling stations in the Transnistrian region. “The state Republic of Moldova always asks to be respected and, accordingly, this means respect for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” the official told the press.

According to Premier Recean, the state acts where it can control the situation and, consequently, will not allow violations to occur on the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities. “For the rest, as I said, the note of protest was forwarded to the Russian ambassador. And once again I repeat, everyone must respect the state Republic of Moldova and therefore the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Dorin Recean.

When leaving the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was summoned on Tuesday, Oleg Vasnetsov said that the right to vote is a fundamental right of all the citizens, which is stipulated in the Constitution and other normative documents. The official Chisinau allowed opening a polling station within the Embassy. Together with the Tiraspol administration, it was decided to establish a few more polling stations, but their number is not as high as the previous years.

As Russia’s Embassy in Moldova decided, on Sunday, March 17, polling stations for the Russian presidential election will be available in Tiraspol, Bender, Rybnitsa and Grigoriopol, according to local media.
