Metropolitan Church asked to take attitude towards Law on Guaranteeing of Equality

After protesting at the Palace of the Republic, representatives of several extra-parliamentary parties and public associations went to the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, where the leader of the Social Democratic Party Victor Shelin submitted a letter to His Holiness Vladimir, the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and All Moldova, asking that they take attitude towards the adoption of the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality, Info-Prim Neo reports. The chairman of the Socialist People’s Party Victor Stepaniuc said that this law will be a severe blow to the people. “We do not want these sick people (the homosexuals) dominate our society. We want them to be isolated. They must not be recognized by law, but should be helped to treat themselves,” said protester Vitalie Climenko, a veteran of the Nistru war. “I form part of no party and no other organization. I’m a simple man and I joined the protesters because it’s painful to see our country degenerating,” said protester Serafim Mititelu. The Law on Guaranteeing of Equality was adopted by Parliament on May 25. The lawmakers assured that the law represents a mechanism for ensuring the equality of citizens in accordance with Article 16 of the Constitution and the relevant European directives. The adoption of this law represents a condition imposed by the EU for liberalizing the visa regime with Moldova. Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said that the given law does not provide reasons for such fears as homosexual families, adoption of children by such families and gay parades.
