Meteorologists explain reduced visibility in recent days

Air currents carrying dust from the Sahara Desert are the reason for the reduced visibility in recent days. The State Hydrometeorological Service says the phenomenon started on August 23, covering large swathes of southern Europe, including Moldova.

Saharan dust clouds are not unusual in this period of the year. When the general wind direction is blowing from south-southwest towards north-northeast, the dust particles can be carried far north into the southern, southwestern, and southeastern parts of the European continent. Dust particles are sometimes brought even farther north into eastern, western, or northern Europe as well.

The State Hydrometeorological Service underlines that there are no reasons for concern.
