Meteor shower viewing on Valea Morilor beach

Starting with 20.00, astronomical phenomena enthusiasts are invited to Valea Morilor beach, to gaze at the meteor shower also known as the Night of the Perseids. The event will unfold until 05.00, and visitors are encouraged to bring along their guitars, a blanket, music, and some friends, IPN reports.

Those interested in watching the meteor fall don’t need any astronomical tools, just a sleeping bag or a chaise-lounge to lay on, as well as thicker clothing, for August nights can get cold. The longer they watch, the more meteors they will spot.

According to specialists, the best period for watching falling stars is after midnight. Such phenomena are best viewed from villages, mountains, or at the outskirts of large cities. The persons watching the Perseids in clear sky conditions will be able to see up to 100 meteors per hour, and those who will watch them from within cities will see up to 10-20 meteors per hour.

The Night of the Perseids is named after the Perseus constellation that sheds them, and represents one of the largest meteor clusters active within the year. In the interval of August 10-15, the Perseids are highly active and that is when most meteors will fall. The Perseids have been known for almost 2000 years.
