Messages at beginning of parliamentary session

In the first sitting of the spring parliamentary session of Parliament, the leaders of the five parliamentary groups called upon all the lawmakers to cooperate. The MPs wished each other wisdom, astuteness and responsibility, IPN reports.

The head of the Socialist faction Zinaida Greceanyi began her speech by saying that the situation in Moldova is alarming. “We know who bears responsibility for the situation created in the country at the start of this year. We do not think that they feel great remorse,” she said. She also said that the Party of Socialists believes in Moldova’s future as a sovereign state, with independent justice. The Socialist faction will support any initiative designed to solve the problems faced by the country and will put forward its own initiatives for remedying the situation. Besides a package of social bills, the faction will also propose annulling the Association Agreement with the EU, keeping the neutrality, stopping the closure of schools, etc. It will also suggest setting up a parliamentary group for integrating Moldova into the Eurasian organizations.

The deputy head of the Liberal-Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet said this session is decisive for Moldova’s fate, saying there are political forces that cynically want to destabilize society and to remove the pro-European forces from power. He called upon the MPs to show sincerity, commitment, determination, and efficiency. “The people who gave their vote to live better need sincerity. We must tell them that we did and will do everything possible to ensure an efficient pro-European government. We must admit that we committed regrettable mistakes that we will make effort to remove,” he stated.

The leader of the Communist faction Violeta Ivanov said the Party of Communists always pleaded for a prosperous Moldova and for its development. The party will work to strengthen Moldova’s neutrality, statehood, the peaceful reunification of the country and to solve the social-economic problems. The Communist MPs will be correct and will become involved in the developments in society. The country is in a situation that requires the mobilization of all the state institutions.

The head of the Democratic faction Marian Lupu said that Moldova must continue its European road as this is what the people asked in the last parliamentary elections. They received a mandate for developing Moldova in a European style and the Democratic Party’s activity in the Government and Parliament will be in line with this wish. The party’s program centers on two key goals: to create workplaces and to protect the families. “Let’s show that a new Parliament means a better Parliament,” he stated, adding that the Democrats are ready to give a hand to the opposition so as to constructively solve all the problems.

The leader of the Liberal faction Mihai Ghimpu said it’s regrettable that a minority Government is to be formed. “The political situation depends on the existence of a pro-European majority in Parliament, of 51 votes,” he stated. Mihai Ghimpu accused some of the MPs of theft, irresponsibility and acts of corruption. He noted that the ruling parties should say it openly that the parliamentary majority includes the Party of Communists.

The spring session was opened on February 12 and will be closed at the end of July at the latest. Only one matter was included in today’s agenda – the giving of a vote of confidence by Parliament to the Cabinet and the government program.
