The public money is spent with considerable prudence and maximum efficiency, Prime Minister Pavel Filip assured the MEPs of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Budgets who came to Moldova on a visit to assess the utilization of the financial support provided by the EU, IPN reports.

Pavel Filip approved of the constant assistance offered by the European Parliament in promoting Moldova’s European course and in implementing the reform agenda. The Premier told the MEPs that the country’s transformation agenda is based on the priorities defined in the Association Agreement with the EU. The executive is making effort to fulfill the agreed measures so that the EU disburses the macro-financial assistance. To ensure the more efficient use of the foreign assistance, the mechanism for coordinating this assistance was modified.

According to the Government’s press service, the MEPs confirmed the wish to strengthen the cooperation between the EU and Moldova so that the citizens enjoy the advantages of the rapprochement between the two sides. The MEPs encouraged the authorities to continue to consolidate the rule of law, the justice sector and the mass media, to investigate the banking fraud and recover the stolen funds and to create conditions for the parliamentary elections to be held freely and fairly.

President Igor Dodon also had a meeting with the members of the European Parliament. He underlined the necessity of keeping a balance in Moldova’s foreign policy. “We already see dramatic examples that show that when we are put in the situation to choose “or- or”, imbalance and destabilization appear in the country,” stated Igor Dodon. He noted he is not and cannot be anti-European or pro-European and is only pro-Moldova and the sustainable and stable development of the country can be obtained only when Moldova has friendly relations both with the East and with the West, for the people’s benefit, the presidential press service has said.
