MEPs encourage continuing reforms in Moldova

The Members of the European Parliament encourage Moldova to continue doing reforms, including by implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement and ensuring economic stability so as to transform Moldova into a successful partner and bring it closer to the EU. Such statements were made in a meeting with of MEPs and Head of Parliament Andrian Candu on February 5, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the meeting centered on the socioeconomic situation in the country, the political developments and the implementation of the reforms assumed by Moldova as an associate of the EU.

The Speaker said the political, economic and social challenges faced by Moldova can be overcome by profound structural reforms, especially in justice, the financial-banking sector and the fight against corruption.

Other subjects discussed referred to the package of laws on integrity approved by the Government, the package of law on energy, the new law on the prosecution service and the investigation of the bank frauds by the international company Kroll. Andrian Candu noted that the fulfillment of all the conditions for negotiating a new program with the International Monetary Fund is the government’s priority.

A delegation of the European Parliament is paying a working visit to Moldova on February 4-6. The MEPs will have a series of discussions with representatives of parliamentary groups.
