In the situation in which the Russian Federation creates economic problems to Moldova, the European Union opens its borders to the Moldovan products, said the Chairman of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group in the European Parliament Manfred Weber. The MEP paid his first visit to Moldova after the EPP won the European Parliament elections, IPN reports.

In a news conference held jointly with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat, Manfred Weber said the EPP is now the most powerful party in the European Union and the fact that the first visit after the elections is made to Moldova is a signal of support. “We work intensely to promote the ratification by the EU of the Association Agreement with Moldova. We will make effort to hasten the ratification. The EU wants to help you and thus opens its borders to the Moldovan products,” stated the European official.

Vlad Filat expressed his certitude that the problems faced by Moldova now can be solved with the help of the foreign partners. “Moldova showed that it can achieve its goals and that it can be a good example,” he said.

The leader of the PLDM handed over a statement to Manfred Weber, which contains a number of suggestions how the EU can help Moldova following the trade barriers imposed by Russia.
