At the moment, Europe is much better prepared to help its partners, while Moldova is an important partner of the European Union. That’s why the EU will come to support Moldova if Moldova asks this in an organized way, IPN quoted MEP Dragoș Tudorache, the European Parliament’s Rapporteur for the Republic of Moldova, as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Dragoș Tudorache said that to overcome the difficulties related to COVID-19 in Moldova, the country needs assistance. “Not even the most powerful European states could overcome this crisis and the difficult moments without solidarity,” stated the MEP.
He noted that a memorandum of understanding between the Moldovan authorities and the European institutions is being negotiated to allow disbursing the first tranche of the additional assistance of €100 million offered by the EU to Moldova to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the MEP, the first tranche of €50 million, which will be offered in the absence of any conditionality elements, is to be disbursed at the end of summer or in September at the latest. The European Commission plans to provide the second tranche at the end of 2020 or at the start of 2021.
In the same program, Vlad Țurcanu, first vice president of the National Unity Party, said that from political and social viewpoints, the current epidemiological situation shows that the population does not trust the current government and the results obtained by this thwart all the efforts made by the people, businesspeople and all the structures that followed the advice, recommendations and orders of the authorities. All these efforts were in vain.
A record high of confirmed infections with the novel coronavirus was reported in Moldova on June 17 – 478.
