Currently, it is hard to say when Moldova would be accepted into the EU, she stated. The accession process itself is very important as it implies reforms in all the fields. This process includes a number of stages, namely the liberalization of the visa regime, creation of the free trade area, and signing of the Association Agreement, Macovei said. Asked if the period of 18 months needed to obtain a visa-free regime, which was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, is realistic, British MEP Graham Watson, a member of the group of European Liberals, said Frattini was European commissioner responsible for justice and internal affairs and his opinion is that of an expert. The delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament is in Moldova on a visit between October 11 and 12.
