MEP calls on Government to clarify case of school buses donated by Romania

MEP Siegfried Muresan sent a letter to Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici by which he asks clarifying the situation concerning the minibuses intended for Romanian-language schools working in the Transnistrian region, which haven’t been yet delivered. These are three minibuses of the 100 donated by the Government of Romania to Moldova in 2014, IPN reports.

“I think the situation of the young people who study at Romanian-language schools in Transnistria continues to be difficult. Given the limited number of education institutions and their geographical distribution, a lot of students have to cover considerable distances to reach the school. That’s why it is very important to deliver and use these minibuses. I respectfully ask you clarify this situation so that we could deal with this case as soon as possible, including with my personal contribution,” reads the letter of the MEP.

Siegfried Muresan reminds that in its last Resolution on the situation in the Transnistrian region, adopted last February, the European Parliament drew attention to the daily problems related to transport experienced by the students from the region. That’s why the swift solving of this problem is a matter related to the observance of one of the basic rights – the right to education in the mother tongue.

“Your direct involvement in this problem would represent a clear signal for the parents and students from the region and for the self-claimed Transnistrian authorities that the Government of Moldova pays special attention to the respect for the right to education, in accordance with the commitments undertaken within the EU – Moldova Association Agreement,” said Siegfried Mureşan.
