Social-Democratic MEP Andi Cristea, as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Association with Moldova, said he will continue to be a correct advocate and to support the reform efforts of the Moldovan executive. He made such a statement after a meeting with the new Premier Chiril Gaburici in Brussels on February 26. The official also said that he is waiting with interest for concrete steps to implement the Association Agenda and for the constitution of the Parliamentary Committee for Association in Moldova’s Parliament, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the chairman of the parliamentary committee, it’s time for the new executive to show continuity and consistency in Moldova’s foreign policy, while the political parties should realize the need for internal political stability. The MEP noted that the people have natural expectations, such as higher living standards, results in the fight against corruption, better public services, and a predictable financial-banking situation.
“I welcomed the fact that after a long period of political negotiations, Moldova finally has a Government that set the integration and deepening of the relations with the European Union as its key objective in the work program. The discussion with Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici was constructive. The implementation of the Association Agenda is a priority assumed by the new Moldovan executive. As the head of the delegation for relations with Moldova, I will continue to be a correct advocate and to support the executive’s reform efforts,” stated Andi Cristea.
Andi Cristea manages the case of the revision of the European Neighborhood Policy on behalf of the Group of Social-Democrats and is a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.
