The head of the delegation to the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, MEP Andi Cristea expressed his confidence that after this autumn’s parliamentary elections Moldova will be ruled by a pro-European government coalition and wished the Democrats success in elections. The Romanian MEP, alongside Romanian senator Titus Corlatean, a member of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Senate of Romania, on March 3 had a meeting with the leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Plahotniuc, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the PDM.
“We wish you success in this autumn’s elections. We want the European development course of the Republic of Moldova to be continued. You can count on our support. It is essential now for the seriousness that was shown by the Filip Government and that was confirmed by the Council’s conclusions of the start of this week to be kept,” stated Andi Cristea.
The MEP welcomed the high-level dialogue that was held in Chisinau on Friday and encouraged the cooperation between Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. “The Republic of Moldova, together with Ukraine and Georgia, managed to distinguish themselves within the Eastern Partnership and, given the necessary level of political ambition, to come closer to shaping their European future, which is membership in the European Union,” said Andi Cristea.
For his part, Titus Corlatean appreciated the results of the government managed by the PDM. “It is important for us to have a pro-European partnership in continuation, including after the legislative elections of this autumn. It’s good that the Republic of Moldova, especially during the past two years, ensured political stability and a government that produces results, economic growth consistent with a series of reforms that advanced and that should continue,” he stated.
Vlad Plahotniuc thanked his interlocutors in the name of the party for Romania’s constant interest in Moldova and for the fact that the neighboring country uses its position to help Moldova in Brussels. “We felt Romania’s support and shoulder in the hardest times. This is not forgotten. In 2016, Romania was probably the only one that still believed in Moldova. This is important for us and we appreciate the support you offer to us,” stated the Democratic leader.
A high-level interparliamentary conference entitled “Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and current security challenges” was held in Chisinau on March 2. This was organized in partnership with the Atlantic Council on the initiative of the Speakers of Parliament of Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine and centered on issues related to information, energy and defense security and common current challenges, economic growth and rule of law in the Eastern Partnership.
