If the political situation in Chisinau does not improve in the immediate future, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin will be the only winner, Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan says in a message on a social networking site, IPN reports.

“The Republic of Moldova will need the financial assistance of the IMF, but the international organization will be unable to provide this assistance if the Moldovan authorities do not continue the road to reforms and the modernization of the state. A good occasion will be thus created for Vladimir Putin to provide a loan to the Republic of Moldova based on a bilateral agreement and to assert, as in the case of Ukraine and Georgia, that the West turns its back to the states that are in difficulty, while the Russian Federation is always ready to help when necessary,” wrote Siegfried Muresan.

The MEP said that Russia never offers assistance for free. “The European Union wants a powerful, economically and politically stable Moldova on its feet, while the Russian Federation wants it to be weak, blackmailable and economically dependent. This was the essence of the position I stated inside the EPP’s Working Group on Foreign Affairs,” he stated.

Siegfried Muresan noted that he also spoke about the fact that the political instability in the Republic of Moldova leads to economic instability, as a report by the National Bank of Moldova shows. He also makes effort to convince all the political factors in Brussels that they must adopt the firmest positions to support Moldova. According to him, everyone must understand who loses and who gains as a result of the political crisis in Chisinau, while the EU’s actions should not be delayed.
