Mental health services in Moldova to be strengthened with Switzerland’s support

Switzerland will offer support to Moldova in strengthening mental health services at community level. Health professionals and social workers will get mental health training, while families and communities will be offered information, education and communication activities.

The activities will become possible thanks to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the third phase of the MENSANA Project “Support for the reform of mental health services in the Republic of Moldova”. The document was signed today by Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco, and Guido Beltrani, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova.

The MENSANA project aims to increase the population’s awareness of mental health issues, promote mental health and support people in the process of recovery and inclusion. It will run until 2026.

In the third phase, emphasis will on the active involvement of health professionals. For the implementation of the project, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will provide 5.69 million Swiss francs in non-refundable assistance.

Currently, 40 Community Mental Health Centers operate in the country’s districts and municipalities, offering medical assistance and psychosocial rehabilitation, support and mediation in family and community relations.
