Men with disabilities taught about father’s role in education of child

Eighteen men with disabilities or who look after persons with disabilities were trained in the prevention of violence and discrimination. Also, representatives of local public authorities of the districts of Strășeni and Fălești were instructed how to correctly communicate with persons with disabilities. The activities were carried out in the framework of the project “Accept disability, not yet violence” that is implemented by the Association “Motivație”, IPN reports.

In a news conference staged by IPN, the coordinator of the project Natalia Codrean said that as the women, the men with disabilities also meet with stigmatization and prejudice. The Association “Motivație” organized for them motivation seminars and psychological counseling meetings.

“We held awareness-raising and motivation sessions for men. This way, 18 men from Strășeni and Fălești were capitated to contribute to the prevention and elimination of different forms of discrimination and violence against persons with disabilities,” stated Natalia Codrean.

Representatives of the local public authorities were familiarized with good practices of communication with persons with disabilities and with possibilities of developing social services intended for these persons in the localities they manage.

“Training sessions centering on the father’s role in the development and education of the child were staged. We also worked with representatives of the local authorities. We held information and
awareness-raising sessions for decision makers from these districts. Twenty-two representatives of LPAs were taught how to correctly communicate with persons with disabilities and to promote inclusive services for persons with disabilities in their localities. We also had information sessions centering on accessibility with representatives of LPAs. As a result, 24 representatives of LPAs from the two districts were instructed in the field of accessibility,” noted Natalia Codrean.

The project “Accept disability, not yet violence” forms part of the program “EU 4 Gender Equality: Together Against Gender Stereotypes and Gender-Based Violence” (EU4GE) that is financed by the European Union and is implemented together with UN Women and UNFPA.
