The day of March 2 that commemorates the victims of the Nistru war will be named the Memory Day. The Parliament adopted the decision by the vote of the Liberal-Democrat MPs on Friday, after about two hours of debates, Info-Prim Neo reports. The full name of the holiday is “Memory Day – Day to Commemorate those Killed in the 1992 War for Defending Moldova's Integrity and Independence”. The Communist MPs did not like the word “independence”, saying it will separate the two banks of the river Nistru. Vadim Misin proposed that March 2 should be named the Day to Commemorate the Victims of the Nistru Armed Conflict. “People from both of the banks died in that war,” said the Communist MP. According to the Liberal-Democrat MPs, March 2 should not be the day of the victims, but of the heroes. Earlier, the Filat Government declared March 2 a nonworking day.
